McKinney Texas: Unique By Nature

Located just thirty minutes north of Dallas, McKinney is a world away from the bustle of the city. From its Courthouse Square and historic homes to its museums, cultural events and championship golf courses, McKinney offers a wide variety of exciting experiences to its visitors.

Recently designated the “fastest-growing city* in the United States”, McKinney has it all ... culture, economic growth, diversity, tradition, and heritage. Along with residential growth, McKinney is also experiencing unprecedented business growth, both testimony to our unique quality of life. We are not only growing ... we are growing right! We have two master-planned communities with all the amenities of contemporary living: golf courses, parks, hike & bike trails and lakes. Home to the Collin County Regional Airport, we are also Collin County’s governmental center. Recognized top-tier education, state-of-the-art health care, responsive city government and an involved business community make McKinney the perfect "home town" for our over 100,000 residents.

Incorporated in 1848, McKinney is named for Collin McKinney, a land surveyor, legislator and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Today, McKinney has more than 3375 historic structures, including the Collin County Courthouse, the Heard-Craig House, Collin County Museum and the Chestnut Square Museum Village.

Integrated into the historic charm of downtown McKinney are more than 100 boutiques, antique and specialty shops which contain that “special something” for shoppers.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, McKinney offers a variety of attractions. The Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary has over four miles of nature trails, a native plant garden, natural science exhibits and bird watching. The Collin County Youth Park and Farm Museum offers camping in addition to a Farm Museum. Towne Lake Recreation Area features a lake, trails, picnic pavilions and playgrounds. Baseball, soccer, boxing, gymnastics and golf are available for the sports fan, whether playing or cheering.

Plan a visit in conjunction with one of McKinney’s fabulous festivals, or a concert. Or find a bargain at Third Monday Trade Days—one of the oldest trade day markets in Texas.
